Materials:
- Soy wax flakes
- Candle wicks
- Candle fragrance oils
- Candle dye or crayons (optional)
- Glass jars or containers
- Double boiler or pot and heat-safe bowl
- Thermometer
- Wooden skewer or popsicle stick
Instructions:
- Begin by melting the soy wax flakes in a double boiler or a heat-safe bowl over a pot of boiling water. If you’re using a pot, be sure to place a heat-safe bowl on top to create a makeshift double boiler. Stir occasionally until the wax is completely melted.
- While the wax is melting, prepare your glass jars by placing a wick in the center of each jar. You can use a dab of hot glue or a wick sticker to keep the wick in place.
- Once the wax is melted, remove it from the heat and stir in your desired amount of fragrance oil. You can also add a few drops of candle dye or a shaved crayon to add color to your candles.
- Carefully pour the melted wax into your prepared glass jars, filling them to about 1/2 inch from the top. Use a wooden skewer or popsicle stick to center the wick and hold it in place until the wax sets.
- Let the candles cool and harden completely, which will take about 24 hours. Trim the wicks to about 1/4 inch and your candles are ready to give as gifts!
